At Karmina, we understand design as a tool capable of translating complex ideas into clear, coherent, and memorable visual experiences. Our collaboration with IRB Barcelona, one of the most important biomedical research centres in Europe, was born precisely from that need: to build a visual system capable of accompanying scientific excellence and bringing it closer to different audiences in a contemporary, accessible, and distinctive way.
Throughout the project, we worked on the creative direction and graphic development of various pieces and media linked to both the institutional communication of the event and experiential actions. The objective was To generate a flexible and recognisable visual ecosystem, capable of coexisting in editorial, digital, spatial and audiovisual environments without losing coherence.
IRB Barcelona: Science, Research and International Outreach
IRB Barcelona is an international benchmark in biomedical research, driving high-impact scientific projects and promoting knowledge dissemination and transfer initiatives. Its activities connect science, innovation, and society through congresses, events, publications, and communication programmes aimed at both the scientific community and the general public.
From Karmina, we work to accompany this institutional dimension through visual solutions that would allow to communicate complex content in a more relatable, dynamic, and visually appealing way. The challenge wasn't just about designing pieces, but about building a solid graphic language that would help reinforce the centre's positioning and the overall experience of its various events and communications.
A Flexible Visual System for Multiple Environments
One of the main creative challenges of the project was To develop an identity for the event capable of adapting to multiple formats and contexts while always maintaining the same visual essence.
The system's flexibility was key to being able to transfer the identity to very diverse media. From institutional materials and editorial pieces to screens, signage, presentations, digital content and applications for in-person events, Each adaptation was designed to maintain visual coherence and functionality in any environment.
“It has been particularly interesting to work with a centre like IRB Barcelona, where the challenge was not only to design the graphics for an event, but to ensure that the entire visual experience was on a par with the scientific and institutional level it represents.”explained the creative team at Karmina.
